The objective of the research project is the development of a process for the realization of superhydrophobic surfaces (IS) of metals (eg. aluminum or steel). The IS surfaces have been recently studied as promising solutions for various industrial applications, such as the increase of the heat transfer in the heat exchangers with phase change and the reduction of the load losses in the pipes.
For practical applications the IS surfaces need to be produced with simple and inexpensive processes and must be able to withstand the adverse conditions.
The aim of this project is to develop IS surfaces through innovative processes on metals able to withstand hostile environments. In particular, we want to realize surfaces for vapor condensation and as anti-icing, which may lead to major improvements in many applications in energy field.
