The main objective of the project that Ethics is developing with the Prof. Simioni group of the University of Padua is the identification of the association between exposure to air pollution and venous thrombotic disease. The interaction of contaminants with the lung tissue can lead to its alteration, resulting in release of inflammatory mediators. Alternatively, contaminants in the air can be inhaled cross the alveolar-capillary barrier and cause systemic effects directly in vessels and organs. The project aims to study a population sample in 5 Italian regions, selected by number and diversity of clinical and environmental data. The activities want to assess which pollutants are more involved in manifestation of thrombotic diseases and which thrombotic diseases may be affected. The investigation is based on measurements made by analyzing some coagulation parameters, in order to highlight prothrombotic changes linked to the presence of these pollutants phenomena.
